Pizza

Alright so here is the deal I work at a pizza shop. My main job is delivering pizzas and sometimes making them, but part of my job responsibilities requires me to take phone orders. Im making this blog post because I deal with a bunch of dummys and rude people and want to set up some type of etiquette for ordering pizza so here we go.

1. Most importantly make sure you are calling the right pizza shop. You dont know how many times this has happened to me, just make sure you are calling the place you intend, it aint that hard.

2. When someone asks for your phone number or credit card dont speed read it to the person on the other line. Remember they have to type it into a computer and cant remember 10 digits right away. Its like driving, slooooow down.

3. Use coupons before your transaction has gone through. This is seriously my largest pet peeve. People will give me their credit card number and it gets approved and then afterwords ask if they can use their coupon or use a military discount. The answer to that is NO. Coupons are meant to attract a larger base of customers, it is the customers job to use them. As well it is a hassel for both the customer and business to cancel credit card orders simply to save a few bucks.

4. Please tip your delivery driver. I dont see how this is even up for debate. When you go to a restaurant you almost always, barring bad service, tip your waiter. How is being a delivery driver any different from being a waiter? Being a delivery driver has much higher associated costs, such as gas, wear and tear on their car, insurance and not to mention the chance of being pulled over to get the order their on time. Remember most drivers really care about making the customer happy.

5. Please give us a little detail about where you live and a working phone number if the place you live at is hard to fin. A little information and a working number go a looooong way, especially when its really busy.

These are some little tips to help make the delivery driver/ phone persons life at your local pizza joint a little bit easier. They may sound a little whiny or rude, but honestly as someone who takes their job seriously both the business and the customer have a responsibility to polite and respectful and these are things that could really improve business efficiency and customer satisfaction.

  5. I cant say ive ever worked at a Pizza shop, but I can imagine those are serious pet peves for the workers, I always tip the delivery driver, I want my pizza and I want it delievered fast. if they do there job I have no problem tossing them $5 tip, its when the delivery is an hour late and the bloody pies cold, is when I get truly pissed off.

  6. Surely all of this is just common sense?! I don't know anyone that doesn't do that :P

  7. Here's a thought--if they call the wrong place, don't tell them or pitch them on your pizza instead. You could be making some solid sales for your shop, and your manager will almost certainly be pleased.

  11. Coupons people are the worst of them all. They think showing a slip of paper will magically deduct 5 bucks from their already processed order. When they find out it doesn't work like that, theyre so cheap the have no problem waiting to re do it all

  16. you make a point..The guy who brings foodfrom kitchen to table deserves no better tip than guy who travels thro traffic , weather and allsort yet hot to your home when he has to deliver to half-naked you

  17. Great list, i agree completely!

  18. In regards to using coupons: If I had to guess, this is from going to the grocery store, where you handle coupons last, not first.

  19. I normally order online these days if i want pizza. seems quicker and more efficient. Still always tip the delivery person though that is just common courtesy for the deliciousness.

    ReplyDelete
  23. I never screw with the pizzas, treat people the way you want to be treated ya know? But that being said getting tipped with beer is pretty fun

  24. I could never do your job. Simply because I'd want to have sex with all the pizza. I'm following you man. Return the favor? Thanks

  26. I always tip but a lot of drivers don't need change. Let's say a pizza costs 13 dollars, I have a 20. "NO CHANGE BRO! SORRY". I can't stand that. Will follow some of this advice though.

  27. I've worked delivery before and I agree with everything posted.

  28. I've never understood why people are rude to the people that control their food. That seems weird.

    ReplyDelete
  29. I always tip. but it really depends on what I've got lying around or the change I am given.

  30. i've had to do this before.... it's not fun answering phones, i hate dealing with peoples shit. but delivering is legit...

  31. I can only imagine the amount of shit pizza boys take in their everyday work life. Followed for sure

  32. It would be nice it the teenager could understand the words that were coming out of my mouth on the other end of the phone.

  33. @ nomoretrouble- yeah honestly thats one of the tricks of the trade. As the customer you have the right to change just say you want it most drivers will go back and get some from their shop. Just remember its not always a scam sometimes and this has happened to me you take two orders at once and the first one takes all your change screwing you on the second order

  34. @Robert Fünf- thats a pretty good assumption I never thought about it that way.

    ReplyDelete
  35. I can't believe people can't take these simple things into consideration.

    ReplyDelete
  36. If the people are late on delivering than I'm not going to tip. But they have to be really late for that to happen.

    ReplyDelete
  37. yeah I completely understand not tipping for really late deliveries, but its really the habitual no tippers that feel like they arent having a service provided to them that get to me.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I always tip no matter what. If they are really late and seem very sorry for it, I tip. I know it sucks paying for gas and everything.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I never got how people can be rude and not tip the pizza guy. Or people who handle your food. I always try to treat people with respect because you never know when that shit will come back to bite you in the ass.

    ReplyDelete
  40. good tips man, i work at a video store and it seems like rude and douchebag are two of the most common settings for people who come in. i always try to be as nice as possible when dealing with someone who works in customer service, because i want the same to be done to me.

  41. I've known people who won't tip at all, even after they're brought 4 or 5 pizzas. I try to tip at least $3 to everyone that serves me, even if all I get is breadsticks.

    ReplyDelete
  42. I didn't know you had to pay your own gas and insurance and stuff, that sucks!
